Massage against inflammation .

For many years now both athletes and people with joint or muscle pain have benefited from massage.
The anecdotal evidence tells us it eases inflammation improves blood flow, and reduces muscle tightness.
Now researchers have found what happens to muscle tissue after massage.
Vigorous exercise or other traumas cause tiny tears in muscle fibers, this creates an inflammatory response as the cells try to repair the tissues.
Massage reduced the inflammatory process by reducing compounds called cytokines, which play a critical role in inflammation and cause pain, but it also stimulated mitochondria, the tiny powerhouses of the cell that convert blood sugar and oxygen into your energy fuel ATP.
So massage reduces inflammation stimulates healing and repairs and rebuilds your cellular powerhouses, mitochondria.
Dr Tarnopolsky, professor of pediatrics and Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario also found a great difference between massage and just taking NSAIDs ( Tylenol or aspirin) which may reduce inflammation, but have side effects that actually hinder the body's ability to heal itself.
Massage actually suppresses inflammation and enhances cell recovery, so while more expensive in the short run, it can save you a bundle in the long run.
So go for a run and then reward yourself with a healing soothing massage.
Live long and strong.
